St Malachy’s High School’s Art and Design Department took their annual ‘A’ Level Art and Photography Trip to Dublin.

They visited the R.D.S., Dublin’s ‘National Crafts and Design Fair’. The students had the opportunity to view the work, and speak with a vast range of fine art painters, photographers, ceramicists, glassmakers, textile-makers, sculptors, and many more besides. They were able to gain an insight into “Art at Work” and spoke with the artists and craftspeople about the experiences, joys and challenges of succeeding in this competitive world of Art, Craft and Design. The students then toured ‘The National Gallery’. With ear-phones as their guides, they were given the opportunity to enjoy the stories behind some of the famous works on display, including the works of Monet, Picasso and local iconic artists such J.B. Yates to name but a few. The students took a walk through Trinity College, and had the opportunity to see the beautiful architecture and history surrounding the location, which they thoroughly enjoyed. Following tea at Apple Green, our group of students and teachers arrived back to Castlewellan, inspired and motivated from the fabulous experiences of the day. The students were accompanied by their teacher and Head of Department Mrs Marie Reavey.
