It gives me great pleasure to introduce our Sixth Form to you. The next two or three years will be some of the best years of your life, providing you with memories to last a lifetime.

As a Catholic school, every decision we make and everything we do places the needs of the individual student first. We are totally committed to providing the very best education possible, academic, spiritual and extra-curricular.

If you are a current student at St Malachy’s High School, you know that the teachers here will go that extra mile for you. Don’t be fooled however into thinking that Sixth Form life is just “more of the same”. Whilst the fundamental ingredients which make us such a successful school are still present, Sixth Form life is very different. You will be given greater privileges and responsibilities, both for your own education and the well-being of others. You will be taught in smaller groups, have more self-directed study time and will work towards becoming a highly successful, capable and independent learner.

Throughout the two years you will receive the very best pastoral and academic support possible. Sixth Form study has to be challenging and worthwhile, preparing you for life at University and the workplace but it also has to be enjoyable. There is no better place to be with your friends, celebrating your success together. Those new to the school in the Sixth Form are welcomed with open arms, make new friends quickly and benefit from all that St Malachy’s has to offer.

We operate an “open door” policy at St Malachy’s. You are welcome any time to come and see us in action, meet some students and teachers and get a better idea of what St Malachy’s has to offer. I hope that this website will give you a flavour of life as a Sixth Form student here and make St Malachy’s the natural choice for your Sixth Form education.

Mrs Hanna

(Head of Senior School)

Students are in Study when they are not attending lessons. There are 2 Study Rooms – a quiet study room and a wireless room where students can access ICT facilities.

We have 2 full time Study Supervisors – Mrs Flynn and Mrs Savage.

Common Room:

Students have access to the Common Room before school, break and lunch times. They can also receive a Study Pass which allows them access to the Common Room during the day.

The Common Room is newly refurbished in a modern fashion, complete with comfortable furniture, tables to work and chat at, a vending machine and large TV.

This is a place to relax and socialise with your peers.

ICT Facilities:

Sixth Formers have access to computers in the wireless study room. Students studying Digital Photography access the Apple Mac Suite. Technology and Construction have access to a specialised non-c2k suite. The school is wireless throughout and students are allowed to bring their own devices into school.

There are 8 ICT suites in the school as well as a suite of computers in Home Economics, Business Studies and Music.

Fitness Suite:

Sixth Formers have access to the Fitness Suite during non-lesson time. The Fitness Suite is also available before and after school.
